William (Sully) Sullivan, November 24,1924-January 1,2021.

Sully passed away Friday evening January 1, 2021 at the age of 96. He resided at Mathews Senior Living where his Granddaughter Melisa was the manager. He very much enjoyed living there and being able to see his granddaughter on a daily basis during the pandemic.

Sully was born on November 24, 1924 in Portland, Wisconsin, the youngest of seven children to Phillip and Elizabeth. He was the last survivor. His siblings were Ruth, Guy, Orphie, Julia, Cyril and Bessie.

He graduated from Waterloo High School and began driving milk truck for Rudy Schroeder. He was soon drafted into the military for WWII. He attained the rank of Tech 5 and was stationed on the Island of Leyte in the South Pacific where he was a heavy truck driver. Upon the end of the war, he returned to Waterloo and continued his truck driving career. In 1958 he moved to Green Bay, WI where he drove for Liebman Packing and then for Schneider Transport. Following retirement from Schneider he continued driving dump Truck in the Green Bay Area until he was into his 80’s. He was very proud of his safe driving record especially his million-mile plaque. His last visit to Schneiders was for his 95th birthday where he was treated like a king for the day, even blowing the horn one more time and the staff singing happy birthday.

He was honored to be included in the Old Glory Honor Flight Mission VIII to Washington DC. He was very touched that they included a visit to the Viet Nam Memorial Wall where his son Mikal’s name is etched.

Three of his 13 children preceded him in death, Michele, Mikal, Phillip and one infant grandson.

He is survived by 10 children and their spouses. Gail (Dave) Sassman, William (Kathy) Sullivan, Dan (Anne) Sullivan, Patrick Sullivan, Tim (Elizabeth) Sullivan, Colleen (Steve) Monske, William (Eileen) Sullivan, James (Wanda) Sullivan, Candy (Jeff) Hirt, Cassie (Melanie) Skenandore. His Grandchildren, Kurt, Julia, Tim, Don, Tina, Mark, Jessica, Phil, Amber, Katie, Mikal, Shaun, Christine, Stacie, Tim, Meeghan, Ryan, Melisa, Scott, Emily, Erin, Matthew, Mikal, Mariah, Mason, Mikaela, Caitlin, Dylan, Collin, Sara, Jessica, Jennifer, Jamie, and Hannah. Forty-nine Great Grandchildren, four Great Great Grandchildren. He is further survived by one brother-in-law James Seidlinger, his family and many other relatives and friends.

A private graveside service will be held for the family.

At this time, the family would like to thank Heartland Hospice, but especially Melisa Ellingson and her wonderful caring staff at Matthews Senior Living for making Sully’s last months the best that they could be during this time of COVID-19.
